THE LITTLE CHIHUAHUA – POLK STREET

When locally-owned San Francisco taqueria The Little Chihuahua announced their newest restaurant location would be in the Polk Gulch, our very own photographer Colin (who lives in the neighborhood) could not wait! The restaurant’s owners envisioned creating a fresh, energetic – but still cozy – space that felt on-brand with their other locations, but took the design and artwork to the next level.

We took the outdated 1-story building down to the studs, and completely renovated the interiors – moving the kitchen + ordering counters to the back, and adding an accessible bathroom. We then designed + worked with talented local fabricators to build the custom hanging shelves and all the solid-walnut-and-ash tables (no two tables are alike!), set the hardwood floors at 45º, cleaned up the building’s incredible existing skylight, and even got a little DIY hand-painting the pendant lights! Completing the restaurant are verdant murals by incredible San Francisco artist Serge Gay Jr.
